Bevan Docherty exploded into the New Zealand Media Headlights in early 2004 when he won the World Championship race in Maderia, Portugal. He followed up his success in Portugal with a Silver medal placing in the Athens Olympics in August, 2004.
His success has been hard won, with several years in the European Triathlon Cup Circuit, which he won in 2000, before making the decision to race on the World Cup Circuit in 2001. The decision was a good one for Bevan who has consistently placed in the top 5 finishers since the move, earning himself the moniker of "Mr Consistency".
