Monty’s professional rugby league career spanned nearly a decade and saw him captain the Warriors, play over 100 NRL and Super League games, and pull on the Kiwi jersey for eight test matches.
Monty left league to take up boxing, despite no previous experience. Boxing is in the Betham blood though - Monty Betham Snr won a slew of New Zealand, Australasian and Commonwealth boxing titles in the 1970s and 1980s.
After a grueling nine months - five wins from five fights - Monty decided to spend more time with his wife Jaymie and their son Riley. His involvement with boxing is not over - he now is the manager and a personal trainer at Boxing Alley.
Monty is no stranger to the small screen and appeared on the television show Treasure Island in 2007, and in 2008 was the runner-up in Dancing With The Stars. You will also see him on air throughout the league season as Sky TV’s commentator for the Under 20’s competition.
